Create Family#

Introduction#

DoHzel is a powerful mobile security application designed to protect your device from online threats, block ads, and ensure your privacy through encrypted DNS. This guide will help you set up and use the DoHzel app effectively.

App Flow & Setup#

Follow these steps to get started with DoHzel.

When you launch the app, you'll be greeted by the DoHzel splash screen.

Create New Protection / Protect Only Me#

If you selected "Create a new family protection" or "Protect only me", you will be guided to the Installation Instructions.

Installation & Activation#

For new setups, follow these steps to enable protection on your device.

  1. Instructions: Review the guide provided in the app.

  2. Open Settings: Tap the button to open your device's settings.

  4. VPN & Device Management: Tap on VPN & Device Management.

  5. DNS: Tap on DNS.

  6. Select Hafnova: Change from Automatic to Hafnova.

  7. Return to App: Once configured, return to the DoHzel app to verify connection.

Main Dashboard#

The Dashboard is the central hub of the app (first icon).

Protection Status#

Confirm that protection is ON.

Subscription Plan (Creator Only)#

If you created a new family protection and do not have an active subscription, you will be prompted to view available plans.

  • View Plans: Choose a plan that suits your needs.

Note: This screen is not displayed if you joined an existing family protection.

You can change the protection mode directly from the Dashboard by tapping the top button.

The top button on the dashboard will always reflect your currently selected mode.

Blocked Requests Analysis#

By clicking on the Blocked requests today card on the Dashboard, you can view detailed traffic analysis. The default view shows data for the last 24 hours. You can filter this data by selecting different time periods.

To view details about avoided security threats, click on the Security threats avoided card on the Dashboard.

Family Management#

Manage your family group by tapping the Family icon (second icon) on the bottom navigation bar.

Access & Login#

If you are not logged in, you will see the Family welcome screen.

  • Welcome Screen: Click Login to proceed.

  • Login / Sign Up:

    • Login: Enter your credentials.

    • Sign Up: If you don't have an account, click Sign up.

    • Forgot Password: If you forgot your password, click Forgot Password?.

Managing Members#

After logging in, you will see your family dashboard.

  • Empty State: Initially, you may not have any members joined.

  • Invite Members: Click Invite Member to add devices. You can choose between two modes:

    • Managed (Default): Full protection control.

      Invite Managed

    • Freedom: Less restrictive protection.

    Invitation Methods: You can invite members by sharing a code, a link, or letting them scan the QR code.

  • Active Family: Once members join, they will appear in the list.

Device Management#

Click on a member in the list to manage their device settings.

  • Member Details: View device info. Note: Admins cannot change protection mode or security policy for Managed members.

  • Changing Protection Mode (Freedom Members): For members with "Freedom" status, you can adjust their protection settings.

    • Protection Mode: Click on the protection mode to change it.

  • Family Dashboard Status: The dashboard reflects the status of your family members.

Logout#

To sign out of your account:

  1. Tap the Logout icon in the top right corner of the Family screen.

  2. Confirm by clicking Yes. You will be redirected to the login screen.

Activity Logs#

Tap the Logs icon (third icon) on the bottom navigation bar to view your network activity history. You can filter logs by Allowed, Detected, or Blocked.

Allowed Logs (Default)#

Shows domains that were allowed through.

  • List View:

  • Item Details: Click on an item to see details. You can Block the domain from here.

Detected Logs#

Shows potential threats that were detected (in Detection Only mode).

Shows domains that were blocked by DoHzel.

Settings#

Access the Settings menu (fourth icon) on the bottom navigation bar to configure the app.

Security Policies#

Customize which security filters are active. You can toggle specific policies on or off according to your needs.

Manage Exceptions#

Control your Allowlist and Blocklist.

  • Blocklist: View and manage blocked domains. Swipe left to delete an entry.
